Of all places to get inspiration...can you imagine getting from your principal!!!
Whhhaaaaaaaat!?
That's right, my new principal sent us some great ideas on how to truly "Teach the Standards" as in teaching the vocabulary of the standard, and helping students make "I can" statements out of the standards. I LOVE this idea. Love students taking ownership of their own learning, and love taking the educational jargon of of standards and putting it in kid friendly terms. Here are some of the examples she shared with our team:
I can't wait to make this idea my own!
Wow! Love how this breaks down the standards! I've always put the standards in student friendly language, but this way allows for a lot more in depth discussion and study. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteYou are too cute!! I love the monkey! I'm so glad to pick up another 3rd grade blog! We spent a lot of time last summer breaking down SS and Science but it slipped to the wayside. I had plans to kick it into gear this summer but I'm moving rooms and life in the fast lane is... well.... FAST! I'll get it done though because it is important and so much better for our students.

Thoughts of a Third Grade Teacher
Tracey,
ReplyDeleteI am also a Georgia girl. (I'm thinking you teach in Ga because I saw the standard about Cherokee Indians in Ga.)I love the idea you shared. I keep working with my babies to help them verbalize the standards. I am taking a new look!

I LOVE your artifacts! I've pinned one to use as an example. I also LOVE the form at the end. I'm trying to wrap my brain around how I can incorporate it next year.
ReplyDeleteI blogged about you here:
